First National is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate and/or Lending Lawyer to join its high caliber legal department in downtown Toronto (hybrid work model in place). Reporting to the General Counsel and working closely with the Senior Management Team, the successful candidate will advise on a broad range of corporate and mortgage-related legal matters in a fast-paced, high volume business environment. Some responsibilities include but are not limited to: learning about the regulation of our mortgage activities across Canada to assist with monitoring and addressing applicable statutory requirements and managing legal risks; providing legal support to our commercial and residential mortgage teams; drafting and implementing internal policies and procedures on a variety of legal matters affecting First National’s mortgage business; preparing, reviewing, and revising mortgage documentation; participating in legislative, business or industry initiatives representing First National’s legal interests; supporting the regulatory and compliance program; and managing other in-house counsel matters.

The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of commercial real estate and/or lending experience gained from a reputable law firm or in-house legal department. First National is seeking a self-motivated and organized individual, with excellent legal drafting skills, who takes a practical approach to problem solving demonstrated through excellent judgement and risk analysis.
