First National is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Lawyer, with lender-side financial services and mortgage experience, to join its high caliber legal department in downtown Toronto. Reporting to the General Counsel and working closely with the Senior Management Team, the successful candidate will advise on a range of commercial lending law matters in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to: advising on complex commercial mortgage financings, including reviewing loan commitment letters and drafting special clauses and other loan-related documents and templates; assisting commercial mortgage originators with negotiations and deal structuring; advising on construction, leasing, property management, land development and insolvency matters in commercial mortgage transactions; liaising with external counsel on transaction-specific legal issues and assisting with other general in-house counsel matters as they arise.

The ideal candidate will have 6-10 years of commercial real estate lending experience acquired from a reputable law firm or in-house legal department. First National is seeking a self-motivated and organized individual with excellent legal drafting skills, who takes a practical approach to problem solving demonstrated through excellent judgement and risk analysis. This role offers the desirable combination of a high quality of work coupled with a great quality of life. Bilingualism (English & French) would be considered an asset.
