ACG is seeking an experienced in-house professional to join its leadership team as
VP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at their headquarters in Markham,
Ontario. This role will serve as a key member of ACG’s leadership team, act as a
strategic business partner to all stakeholders including the US legal organization, and
provide governance expertise to the Board of Directors. Operating with a high degree
of autonomy, responsibilities will include: advising on insurance regulatory requirements
and general compliance; supporting corporate acquisitions, dispositions,
reorganizations and strategic investments; overseeing government relations activities;
supporting the negotiation, drafting, and interpretation of legal agreements with service
providers and other external parties; managing corporate litigation; leading the
company’s corporate governance initiatives; and acting as Secretary for Board and
Committee meetings.

Communication, creativity, a team mentality and strong business acumen are key
attributes for this role. As this position is also responsible for the management and
leadership of a talented team of lawyers and support staff, a proven track record as an
effective leader is critical. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of relevant
corporate/commercial experience gained from a leading law firm or major organization. Experience in insurance, another highly regulated industry and/or with a public company would be considered an asset.
