New Metric Media (NMM) is an award-winning production company focused on creating brand defining, memorable and authentic content for global audiences. The company is behind the hit Hulu/Crave original comedy LETTERKENNY and the upcoming spin-off series SHORESY, the Netflix/CityTV premium drama series BAD BLOOD and the Roku/Crave original comedy CHILDREN RUIN EVERYTHING. NMM is also recognized as a leader in brand marketing for its success with their off-screen extensions including beverage partnerships, collectible merchandise and live talent tours.
NMM is seeking a business minded Commercial or IP Lawyer to join their growing team. Although this role is based out of the company’s downtown Toronto office, NMM accommodates flexible working arrangements. Reporting to the VP, Business Affairs & Legal, the successful candidate will work closely with NMM’s development, production, finance, and merchandizing departments to support the company’s ever-growing slate of television productions and related IP licensing opportunities. Responsibilities will include: negotiating and drafting agreements relating to a variety of topics including rights acquisition, talent, distribution, merchandise & licensing as well as advertising and marketing; advising on the availability of financial incentives for film, television and digital projects and managing the process of meeting funding requirements; providing pragmatic and real time advice to internal stakeholders as well as external partners including talent managers and agents on a range of both legal and business issues; and managing external counsel as required.
The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of commercial and/or IP experience gained from a law firm or in-house setting. Although experience in the arts and entertainment industry would be an asset, the company is equally interested in hearing from strong candidates who are passionate about TV. Additionally, NMM is seeking someone who demonstrates a practical approach to problem-solving that engages common sense, business acumen and emotional intelligence alongside legal skills. This is an incredibly exciting and rare opportunity for a junior lawyer to build a career in the fast-paced world of television production in a role that will engage and develop both their legal and business skills.
If you have the requisite skill set, please apply in complete confidence to Danya Cohen or Adam Lepofsky (both Canadian qualified lawyers) at RainMaker Group.
