RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust (RioCan) is one of Canada’s largest real estate investment trusts. RioCan owns, manages and develops retail-focused, increasingly mixed-use properties located in prime, high-density transit-oriented areas where Canadians want to shop, live and work. As of September 30, 2021, RioCan’s portfolio is comprised of 210 properties with an aggregate net leasable area of approximately 36.9 million square feet (at RioCan’s interest) including office, residential rental and 15 development properties.
RioCan is currently seeking a talented Junior Lawyer to join its high caliber team. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Legal, this position is responsible for providing timely, actionable advice to internal clients on a wide variety of matters including commercial leasing matters, real estate and construction matters, and other corporate/commercial initiatives. The successful candidate will take a lead role on various matters including: drafting, negotiating, interpreting and enforcing upon commercial lease documentation and various other commercial agreements (including, construction and development contracts, IT contracts, ancillary revenue arrangements and other vendor contracts); advising on strategic initiatives including new development projects; managing litigation; and providing direction to external counsel.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of relevant experience gained from a major real estate organization or a leading national law firm with a demonstrated ability to be a strategic business partner to clients. Exceptional negotiating and drafting skills, an ability to deliver sound and decisive advice in a fast-paced environment, and strong relationship-building and communication skills are a must.
