Our client is a Canadian subsidiary of one of the largest and most trusted insurance organizations in North America.
With an eye to the future, the company is seeking to add a Senior Litigation lawyer to join their Claims Team. The position is based out of Calgary but the company is open to a remote working arrangement with flexibility to travel to Calgary for in-person court and procedural appearances when they resume.
Reporting to the Director, you will represent the company and its insureds in the defence of a range of tort matters. Responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to: handling all aspects of litigation from initial referral to file closure; providing strategic assessment and opinions on files; drafting pleadings, motion materials and other procedural documents; attending motions, examinations for discovery, mediations, trials and other hearings; monitoring evolving legislation and case law and providing proactive guidance to various business units on the impact of legal developments; and providing mentorship and training to staff as necessary.
The ideal candidate will have 10 + years of experience in personal injury law gained from a reputable law firm or another large insurer. Experience in defence work as well as personal and bodily injury will be preferred. The company is seeking a strong technical lawyer who is solutions oriented but also a strong advocate. An ability to exercise good judgement under tight timelines and discretion in sensitive matters is also essential.
